This little girls' name is Kaitlyn. She's the daughter of my friend Allyson. Another friend, Stephanie, and I were really rooting for the name "Stephanie Marcel". Unfortunately when she was born, we were vetoed (thanks Brett). Still, Stephanie and I feel it is in little Stephanie Marcel's best interest to help her be aware of her heritage, friendship is a pretty important thing. So for Steph and I, this little girl will always be Stephanie Marcel.

When Andrea invited me over to make suckers I just have to say that the reason I went was not for the suckers (I'm just not a sucker kind of a gal) but rather just to hang out with Andrea because she's so fabulous. She really doesn't believe she's fabulous, but everyone she knows will tell you the same thing "F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S". You couldn't have a more kind, loving, generous, or loyal friend. So I really wasn't much help during our sucker making time because I was doing other things (like taking pictures). I was surprised to find that making suckers is fun and it's even more fun to take pictures of suckers.

Since we had such a great time together and she loves nicknames (you do love nicknames don't you Andrea?), I'm giving her a new nickname from our most special experience, "SuckURRRRRR!!!!!" We can call her "Sucky" for short. I think she'll like it, I know her brothers will. I grew up hearing it often enough.

To Edit or Not to Edit?

Really? Ok..here you are.

As a parent, I understand that but the

truth is if you don't pay much, you won't get much.
More and more photographers are offering hi-res files as part of their services. But 99% of photographers are not going to fine tune edit every image on a CD. It would just be way too time consuming. A good part of almost every image involves editing (brightening and sharpening the eyes, retouching the skin, color correction, etc) which means time. When you pay for a print, this is partly what you are paying for. I part with files quite reluctantly because I know that every shot I send out is a reflection of myself and what I put into my profession. Quite frankly, I'm just not interested in giving my clients anything but the best. I do offer packages with hi-res files where I do basic edits, but I also have the clients select their top favorites so I can make them look their absolute best. When you look good, I look good.

UTG Workshop

Everyone in the workshop is fairly new to the agency and many new to the industry. As you can see, UTG has got some really fabulous talent. I am trilled with results! Here's just a sneak peak from a workshop I did last week for some of UTG's talent.

I had expected 10-15 people and we had 29 people show up. Yikes! Everyone was patient, and thanks to my oh-so-wonderful assistant, Karson, everything went very smoothly. Isn't he cute? If you see Karson, please tell him how cute he is. This will make him feel all warm and fuzzy and full of gratitude for to getting to haul around all my crap.

We got some great shots and it was a crazy fun experience.

God's Country

There are few places in the world like Zion's National Park. If God had an address, this certainly would be it (at least one of Her homes). As we hiked along, someone before us had put a little girl's lost shoe on the sign, in hopes that a parent would be able to claim it. The intimacy of this shot was such a contrast to the the wide grandeur of everything else we had seen.

I think these are possibly two of the most handsome cowboys in all of Central Utah, maybe even the whole of Utah. I hope I'm not embarrassing you boys, but Lord knows it's the truth. A huge thank you to Libby and Justin who invited right in their home and shared their piece of paradise with us. They were exceptionally gracious and hospitable. Our time there truly made our visit to the area one to remember.

God's Counrty

We are headed to God's country for a few days (and you thought, no one knew his address). We were supposed to go earlier this week but my son has been so incredibly ill. We are so glad to be even going at all. I had some incredibly beautifully prints delivered this morning (Taya, you are going to LOVE them), I'm headed off for some great photog opportunities, and my son is feeling human again. An Evening Of Magic

So there are many benefits to having a photographer in the family. Aside from taking hordes pictures that will never get printed, I also get volunteered for a wide variety of tasks. This weekend was my daughter's birthday party. The theme was "An Evening of Magic". We had pastel lanterns, twinkling lights, candles and floating flowers, it was beautiful! A huge thank you to Shelly for helping me get the stuff for the cake I didn't have time to make, to Kelly for buying a fabulous cake to replace the one I didn't make, to Jen for the the last minute princess styling (she should be a professional), and to my mom for most of the supplies (she should have been a professional, she's always so helpful:). It was a night I'm sure the girls will remember with much happiness.

Tips for great pix

"So I don't really like to have my picture taken."

"Okay."

"I actually take pretty bad pictures."

"Alright."

"But I want you to make me look great. "

"No problem."

When Jill came in for a headshot for her business, she didn't say these things, but like most people, she wanted to look her best. It's more common than not, not to like to have your picture taken. Most pocket size cameras don't do a great job capturing our best features. The flash combined with lens width can often make us look bloated and semi comatose. We want photographs that not only make us look our best, but bring out who we feel we really are.

Here's are some tips I give my clients for great pictures.

1. Pick a good photographer.

While this should be obvious, it's easy to opt for "less expensive". Pictures are an investment.

We'll pay money to have our hair done or go out to eat, but we balk about spending $40 for 8x10. Would I rather have a great picture or a night at the Olive Garden? A picture is going to last you a lot longer and is easier on your waistline.

2.KISS- Keep It Simple Stupid. For professionals, wear something neutral colored. Pick an outfit that has a classy timeless look. You don't want people looking at your outfit and saying, "Oh, I remember when that was popular". For children, parents can choose a few outfits, but let your kids have a choice. You kids will be happier, more relaxed and therefore more likely to take better pictures. For teenagers, parents let them wear whatever the h#$* they want for individual shots. For a group shot make sure they have a choice unless of course you want a fussy face fixed on your wall for the next ten years. Ladies, simple make up and hair. Those bright lipsticks can look scary and big bows on girls can be distracting. For group pictures, stay in the same or complimentary color palette. Bright colors really pop out, save them for Halloween costumes. Jill did a great job with all of the above.

3. Hair out the eyes, please. Be prepared to cut your bangs or wear them over to the side. I know long bangs are "in", but the "eyes are the light of the soul" and if we can't see your eyes, what's the point? I just put a pair of professional scissors in my camera bag and yes, I'll be more than happy to use them if needed.

4. Make time. If you are in a hurry, go to Walmart. Be prepared to spend some time if needed. Your photographer will be able to let you know what sort of time frame to expect. Headshots are relatively fast, engagements and seniors shoots can vary. With Families, remember anything with toddlers and babies will add time. Bridals probably take the longest. As photographers, we want you to look your best so be prepared to set aside the time.

5. Have Fun! Don't get stressed out. If you're going to take the time and spend the money, try to be relaxed and have fun. Remember these are moments that will last you a lifetime.

This is what happens when you drive 200 miles to help out a friend. She'll put in front of the camera even if you don't want to be. That's what friends are for.
Doesn't she photograph beautifully? It's a little unfair actually.

I don't think words could express what an amazing friend Lora is or how much she means to me. She's the kind of person that would say, "Hell huh? I've been there. Need a ride?" If you need somebody at your back, she's your gal.

I was so blessed to have Michael Nielsen there with me. He is a brillant stylist, as well as many other things. Truthfully, I don't know what he can't do. He is a gifted costume designer, choreographer, director, actor and he throws killer karaoke parties. Be looking for more projects from the two of us!

Debby is a wonderful friend from high school. Oh, we still laugh so much together!

At one point, I laughed so hard, I lost my gum. "Where did it go?" was the question of the hour. I won't tell you where I found it or when, but it was recovered at a later time. Thank you for a fabulous time Debby and some stunning pictures!

Why in the world should I want to work with models when I have such insanely beautiful friends? I'm just going to keep my studio set up in the front room and snag people come by to visit (for reals).

Alma Mater

To be clear, "alma mater" is the school you graduated from.

Or it could be the name given to a sculpture of the goddess Minerva by Daniel Chester French.

Alma Mater is also the name of a BBC play and was the title used in ancient Rome for the mother goddess as well as the for the Virgin Mary in Medieval Christianity.

In this case, I'm referring to the University of Utah.

Anyway, I wish I had lots of affectionate warm fuzzy stories to share with you concerning my "nourishing mother", but I don't think you really want to hear them and to be honest, I can't seem to recall very many motherly memories.

I spent the holidays the best way possible with family and friends and it feels strangely odd to be at my computer once more after being absent for so long. Most of my pictures from the break will stay stored away somewhere, but these are a few that are worth sharing, my dear friend's son.

His name is pronounced with a soft "a" as in the word "all" followed by a Spanish d (just a hint of whisper of an English "th") another soft "a", and finish with a musical and "n". String the letters together and his name will fall like warm liquid from your lips, "Adan".

A gaze that reveals an ageless spirit and a knowledge of things that perhaps I've forgotten.

What is it that he knows?

His mother's eyes that one can swim in.

His father's ears make their mark.

Seeing them in him, I feel a kinship, a love already born.

And when his eyes rest on mine, I feel as if his soul quietly reminisces, "Oh yes, I remember you".

The forgotten princess

I was hoping to meet up with some royalty while I was Tonga and I did, but not in a way which I had anticipated. As I was bicycling up the coast one afternoon, I met this young girl. Quiet and unassuming, she held herself with such nobility and dignity that in my mind I began to remember her as "the forgotten princess".

My sweet classmate got the same thing because she thought it was an email from me with pictures from Tonga. UGH! Be careful of anything you open and make sure and back up EVERYTHING you care about.

When I was Tonga I had the chance to get away for the day to an island resort. I had the option of choosing a) an Aussie owned resort b) the German owned resort or c) the Tongan owned resort. I didn't go half away around the world to hang out with Aussies or Europeans. I chose c) Pangaimotu Island Resort owned by Big Mama. Big Mama was not in but I met some pretty great people and ate some amazing food.

If I got in a job in Tonga with a promise I could eat in the nice restaurants EVERYDAY, I'd probably have to move, it's that good. Nothing in the States can even compare.

Yes, it really did look like this. Pangaimotu is a yachtie hang out and if I had time that day I would have taken a cruise, but I headed back to Tongatapu for an invitation for a history making event (more on that tomorrow).

Tonga time is not the same as US time. And I'm not talking time zones here. I haven't found a conversion chart yet, but I'll post it when I do. Time is as Einstein said, relative. I had to ask people, "Are we talking Tonga time or American time?" That was somewhat helpful in a few occasions, but not really. What was most helpful was for me to say to myself, "Oh, we're talking Gary time." That's my husband. This was of my first clues that my palangi husband has a Tongan spirit. He loves to eat, sing, hang out at church, and is super laid back. That pretty much defines the Tongan way. If somebody had told me that the day we had married, it would saved me a lot of confusion.

Yes, that is a sunken ship in the background (probably a pirate ship) and I went snorkeling there. The ocean was just teeming with sea life. It was mind blowing! Note to self, "Next trip, underwater house for camera."

When I was in Tonga, I went to seven hours of worship services visiting various congregations and buildings. Worship is very important in the Tongan culture. On Sunday all businesses shut down and meeting houses are full throughout the day. Everywhere I went I was accepted with open arms and warm smiles.

One bright morning after the rain had cleared, these women were about the yard doing their daily laundry as I walked by. All three had young children and graciously let me photograph them. As I was taking their pictures a young girl came out of one the humble homes that were gathered on the property and started to head to school. I inquired if I could take her picture as well. She agreed. The contrast between the women and girl was startling. There she was clean face, perfectly braided hair with a beautifully pressed school uniform. She was like the white dress that fluttered in the wind next to the worn clothes on their line, innocent, fresh, and full of possibilities.

The Palangi Goes Swimming

For the record, the Palangi is me.

It is the Tongan for word for someone who is white, of European descent to be more accurate. The young girl in the last image has albinism. I was the only palangi on the scene that day (and most others as well).

"Da Palnagi wanna go swimmin eh?"

That's what I heard a young boy yell out to me my first day I was in Tonga as I was down by the wharf watching the kids swim in the afternoon sun. Everyone seemed to think this remark was particularly hilarious. One thing I learned quickly in Tonga was that people will laugh at you, often and openly, especially as a "palangi". So when the boy from the water called this out, I simply hollered back, "Yeah, da Palangi wanna go swimmin!" I snapped a picture, shrugged off my backpack and camera, and jumped in, clothes on. We laughed...together, hard.

I didn't need to speak Tongan to know they were saying to one another,

"She's not really going to get in in she?"

They were surprised that not only did I join them, but I could swim quite well by their standards. This incident would precede me in a number of locations on Tongatapu.

The Fisherman's Son

This boy.

He sails through my dreams.

I close my eyes and see only him over and over again.

During my stay in Tonga, my computer was barely functioning so I wasn't able to review most of the pictures I was taking each day. Imagine my surprise when I found I had photographed this young boy on three different occasions.

And now that I am so far away I find myself looking through his pictures over and over again to see if I captured the spirit of this elusive elf. He seems so small in this picture and I feel so far way from that rainy day on the beach when I sat to watch him and his sister play while his father fished. Looking at him as he dances and leaps through my frames, I feel a unique kinship with him. He was the only young child who ignored me as he played. All the other children would approach me once they noticed me and pose for me, quite willingly, for a good amount of time. If I parked myself, hoping they would continue on with their activities, they assumed I stayed because I needed more pictures so they would generously invite their friends, siblings, and neighbors to have their picture taken as well. They'd even offer suggestions, in quite good English, of what other kinds of pictures I should take. From the teenage boys, I usually heard "Hey Palangi!" followed by some stunt, jump, or pose that look like it belonged on a rap album. I can't tell you how many fabulous pictures I have of boys jumping into the water and posturing with what looks like to this palangi, gang hand signs (ok, maybe I can, 800-1,000).

But this young boy seemed to know what I wanted and needed as a photographer. As his sister stopped her playing and smiled for me, he motioned for her to keep playing. As she turned to dash away, he shot me a quick smile of understanding over his shoulder and then completely ignored me for the next half hour . They ran about the beach continuing their endless game of tag as I sat and photographed them. It was only that as I was leaving that I approached them for a closer shot. I look into his eyes and can't help but wonder if our lives will not cross again. If I came away from Tonga with only his pictures, I would have left a happy woman.

Project Give

The following is a sentimental Christmas story that has no pictures. It also mentions God. So if don't want to read anything that's going make you feel all warm and fuzzy and think about all the blessings you have in your life, skip it.

Six years ago I was teaching elementary students in a day treatment program. Working with students who came from very disadvantaged backgrounds gave me a new perspective of the many blessings I had in my life. As the holidays approached, I felt overwhelmed by the onslaught of the annual holiday consumerism. It felt so incongruent to what I was taught what Christmas was meant to celebrate.

My little class of twelve students had been talking about giving to our communities and I thought it would be a great idea to find a project for them to get involved in. We decided as a class to do a coat drive to help those in need. It would be our way of "giving back." We mapped a plan together. The students chose to call it "Coats for Kids." We would make flyers and take them home to our families and distribute them about the small school. I asked them how many coats we should we try to collect. One student suggested we collect 12 coats, another suggested 6, and then a kindergartner in the first row piped up, "I think we should do 634". I took a deep breath. Many of these kids would be on the receiving end for local charities themselves. How could we possibly get together 634 coats? I suggested we take a moment, think about the number in our hearts, and then vote on the number of coats we should work for. I was hoping this would the kids a chance to really reflect on what we could do. I wanted it to be their choice, it was after all their project. We then voted. We had a few votes for 12 coats and then the students felt bold enough to propose 37 coats. This inspired the kindergartner to raise up of of his chair turn to the class and plead with his toothless lisp, "Ms. Walker has told us we can do anything we want if we work hard enough. I know if we work together, we can do this."

In two sentences this young five year old had presented an argument with which no one could disagree, including myself. All the students voted for the number 634. The kids were so confident we would get bag loads of coats, I realized that given their circumstances, this was not likely. These kids all had come from very difficult backgrounds often headed by single mothers who had financial difficulties. Most students were survivors of physical and sexual abuse. They had learning challenges, behavioral challenges, and emotional challenges. In fact some days, it felt as if there were no areas of their young lives that hadn't been challenged. There was no other class in the district I would rather have been teaching. That night after I had put my own children to bed, I knelt and offered a simple but heartfelt prayer with tears in my eyes, "Lord, please give these kids something to believe in. Please help us make our goal."

My confidence was nothing like that of the kids. We would count the items in the donation box first thing each morning. They were thrilled when two coats were in the box. "We're almost there!", my kindergartner would yell out. We had two students that everyday managed to slip their own coat in, despite the cold weather. Our flyers went to other classes, staff, and faculty but the items in the box remained few. I continued to pray. My sweet husband and I would wrap up our small children each night and pass out our class flyers to neighbors, family, friends, and those from church asking for their help to pitch in. Still our class had little to show for all our work. I can't tell you the desperation I felt the kids continued to demonstrate complete faith in our goal. But I wondered to myself, what I would tell my students when we fell so short. My family increased our prayers. Suddnely as the final days counted down, the coats flooded in. These children whose families had so little gave so much. People from school, family, friends, neighbors, church members, and complete strangers responded to our flyers. When the deadline came, our class tallied over 1,000 winter items. All of which was due to a little boy who believed and those who wanted to share. Not only was my prayer for my class answered, but a five year old's vision was realized and many bodies that were cold that winter felt relief. One of the students did choose to give his own coat, against my wishes but with his mother's support. Under his tree that year he found a new coat donated by some anonymous giver. Words cannot express how special that Christmas was to our family. That experience has been a poignant reminder of how the service we choose answers the prayers of others in so many ways.

For the last five years our family has continued the tradition of a clothing drive with our friends and neighbors in the Ranches for the local shelters. We collect warm winter clothing, shoes, household items, such as dishes and sheets. The items we gather will go to a number of places including Catholic Community Services. They will benefit those who are homeless, immigrant families and victims of domestic violence who are working to build new lives. This service project is for anyone who wants to help out and make a difference in the lives of others.

We invite you to join us at our open house this Monday at 7pm at 1983 West Ranch Road in Farmington. We'll have good food with friends and some great music. Since I've been out of town, our neighbors have kindly offered to take the reins and hold the event at their home. A huge thank you to Jason and Jen. The kids in my Sunday School class have worked together to design and pass out flyers. So thank you to Karson, Shalisse, Brady, Kami, Corrine, and Weston. They are also working with kids from their schools to gather items. I just have to say they are some of my favorite teenagers ever. After December 1st, items can be dropped off at my house until December 20th. We actually collect items year round, so be thinking of us in the future:)

This is my fabulous little family.

They have been so supportive and loving for the last few weeks as I've been preparing for this adventure to Tonga. I'm being sponsored by a company that is interested in developing renewable energy technology in the islands. I'll go to document the land and the people. Pretty amazing actually. As I prepare to go, I look at these faces I love so much and ask myself, "What more could I ask for?"

Peace Core Care Package

I'm putting together a care package for the Peace Core Volunteers in Tonga and when I told some friends they said, "Oh, we want to help too!" So if you want to pitch in, we'd love to have extra help. Many volunteers work in remote areas where teaching supplies are scarce so any stickers, pencils, markers, and educational software would be great. On the personal side teas of any kind, and spices would be a huge treat for them. It's so amazing how little things can mean so much:)

Buffalo Ranch

There are few places on this earth that I love as much as Buffalo Ranch. For the last five years these horses, my neighbors, have filled my horizon with countless breathtaking sights. Unfortunately, the Ranch is moving operations and the horses will soon leave. The owners graciously allowed me access to shoot on the property. The horses, however, had other ideas. I was simply too much of a curiosity to be left alone. They nibbled my hair, my camera strap, and would have munched on my lens if I had let them. One mare took a personal interest in me, constant nuzzling me, and insisted on corralling me while refusing to let the other horses come close. She was rather vigilant in her task so getting some shots was quite a bit trickier than I had imagined. It was a poinant reminder that good portriature takes a partnership of sorts, a mutual agreement perhaps. I found myself reluctant to leave.

Golden princess

I've taken to hauling my camera about with most places I go and because it's so big it always draws attention, especially with kids. This afternoon this little girl was rather dismayed when I explained I could only take her picture if her mommy said it was okay. She didn't quite believe I needed parental permission (even with much and repeated assurance). After what felt like an official nod from the executive office, we got down to business. "One picture", she told me. We had differing views where the "one picture" should take place. When I said, "But right here your hair looks like the golden tresses of a princess sparkling in the sunlight", she was sold. She may not know what tresses are, but she got the princess gold part just fine. I don't think I've ever had a four year old be so professional and composed for me. I just may hire her to come work with me on family sittings to demonstrate to the adults on how to have their picture taken.

These are two of my wanna be adopted kids. If I could adopt them, I would. I love this picture of Chandra because all that she is inside just seems to radiate, kind, generous, patient. Chandra doesn't have any idea how beautiful she is.

Maybe this picture will give her a clue.

Talmage is my son's best friend. He's terribly savvy for an nine year old. Under his usual layer of grime, lies a mastermind of plotting and strategy. He may work for the CIA one day. He recently offered a trade, his nineteen year old brother for my son. The change of location would be very advantageous for everyone and since they have a lot of kids in his family, his mom surely wouldn't mind. I offered my home as a base for their home location, but that wasn't interesting. I guess I need to work on my bribing skills. It took some efforts of my own to convince him to let me brush his hair for this shoot. We both felt it was worth the effort.

Brenton is a natural when it comes to modeling. He comfortably lounged as I adjustied my camera settings and I snapped this before we moved on to do any other shots. This was by far my favorite picture.

Bella, on the other hand, knew exactly what she wanted. She had had all sorts of poses prepared for me. My favorite was her maniacal bunny face which I didn't quite capture because her movements were far more frenzied than I had anticipated for a portrait shoot. If anyone is looking for a hyperactive happy hare, I've got just the gal. I took this shot as she was plotting her next character. This was by far my favorite picture.

One of my favorite photographers is the amazing Keith Carter. Inspired by a lecture by the author Horton Foote, Carter's mantra for photography became "photograph what you know", which is turn has focused the direction for my passion.

I tend to do a lot of people pictures so I decided to work on a "product" shot.

Almost every time I see Lilian she grins wide and says the same thing,

"I'm gonna go to your house."

She's never content with a nod or smile or even a "yes". She will happily tell you the same thing over and over. One night, I stopped I counting after the eightieth time.

This would be annoying if it was any other child, but since she's not any other child, she's Lilian, you can't help but feel a measure of gratification and pleasure that this four year old has chosen your house to want to visit .

Gangrene Film Festival

What did you do this weekend?

Well, I hung out and took pictures for the Gangrene Comedy Film Festival this weekend. Did you know film festival's have opening acts? Well, this one did. The night started with Chuck Money, an Elvis Evil Kevnil wanna be and then Youtube superstar Gerry Phillips performed. He's a a manualist who plays his hands to songs like Queen’s "Bohemian Rhapsody". What does that have to with film? Nothing, but a lot to with comedy. The directors were welcomed on stage and invited to sledge hammered a car before they sat down with the MC and Gerry to field questions after their film was viewed. After the films were shown, the car was sold for of $9.99 to a group a very satisfied teenager boys (I moved their hats over to the side, not them), Chuck was available for autographs (mine is signed "Flames and Fire, Love Chuck") and a photo booth with Viking costumes was provided

(I did feel a meausre of remorse that I didn't get in).

It was much more than a film festival, it was a laugh-a-rama.

Merry-Go-Round

I could have spent my whole summer snapping shots of kids on the merry-go-round.

Interestingly enough, I later found as I was editing my pictures, it wasn't the children who made the best shots, it was the adults. They proved to give much more to the cameras than the children did. The moms shooting away with their cameras and this man had more fun on his ride than any kid I'd seen all summer.

Labor Day

We woke up to a rainstorm this morning.

Our plans for a hike to the waterfall were cancelled and we spent a long quiet day indoors. We thrlled the sun was peeking though the clouds amd the winds had died down. We were in luck it seemed. We felt we had to get in one more trip before the pool closed for the summer so with only an hour before closing ,we threw on our swimsuits and braved the sixty degree weather.

It seemed the sun was shining just enough for me to get a few shots as the kids jumped off the high dive before the clouds hid the remaining rays. We kept swimming till closing time.

It's funny how that one hour in chilly wind was better

than all of others that day we spent so cozily inside.

Last days

Somehow in my mind I can not grasp that summer really is over, the kids are back in school, and the leaves will soon begin to turn.

It's all the more reason that simple pictures like this

become so meaningful.

They say something about who you are are and what your vacation was to you.

When I look at this shot, I will remember so much more than just this moment.

For me, the laughter and faces of these three boys will always be woven in the memory of one of my children's favorite summer vacations, one of go carts, birthday cake, late days on the lake, and nights that always came too soon.

"What grizzly?", my children will someday ask, "Did we even go to Yellowstone on that trip?"

We did.

But their memories will be like mine, not of wildlife animals, but of a

$700 ski boat,

an inflatable kayak,

eating good food with people we love,

singing Eric Clapton at midnight,

Broken Chair Island,

and a go cart the kids pieced together with a car seat, a dolley, and some duct tape.

Priceless.

There's a very surreal quality in the air back in the shoots with the bull riders.

This was one of the funniest stories I've heard in a long time. Not to break any confidentiality, but it was about a one armed bandit, a real one.

This was one of the most beautiful cowboys I had laid my eyes on. I don't know what is was about him that made me want to see him win so badly.

You know, what I love about taking pictures of kids and teens is that they give more freely of themselves. They are not as weary of a camera as most adults are and they are simply more willing to be themselves, tell stories, talk about their lives, and look the camera straight on no posing needed.

So when I post their pictures on my blog I always try to post at least one picture I know they will like. These first two shots are ones I love, the third is for his mother (moms always want a smiley shot) and the last is for Keali'i. He doesn't really like to smile for cameras and he loves his hat. Thanks for your patience Ke.
